Making of AmericaThe Making of America: The Substance and Meaning of the Constitution (Hardcover)
by W. Cleon Skousen
Cost: Approximately $20.00
Description:
The Making of America provides a wealth of material on the Founding Father's intentions when drafting the American Constitution. It is one of the most thorough compilations of statements by the Framers relating to constitutional interpretation, and addresses the Constitution clause by clause -- providing resources on the Founder's intent of each clause. The National Center for Constitutional Studies, a nonprofit educational foundation, was created in order to revive those original American concepts in all of their initial brilliance and vitality. The very fact that many of them are becoming obscure and misunderstood emphasizes the urgency of the task.

The Forgotten ImmigrantThe Forgotten Immigrant - How Tolerating Illegal Immigration Hurts Immigrants (Paperback)
by Representative Chris Herrod
Cost: Approximately $16.00 (Currently out of stock at Amazon, but avaialble to purchase for $15 from Weber 9/12.)
Description:
In The Forgotten Immigrant, Utah House of Representative Chris Herrod describes his experience educating elected leaders and the general population about the danger and harm caused by tolerating illegal immigration. Despite being married to a legal immigrant from the Ukraine and having a business partner from Ethiopia, Representative Herrod has been called a racist, a fascist, unchristian, uncompassionate, a nativist, a McCarthyist, and even a foaming-at-the-mouth zealot simply because he believes that the immigration process should be fair and that the United States should not punish those who are going to great lengths to follow the law. Representative Herrod specifically counters with facts the belief that tolerating illegal immigration is compassionate. He refers to this as the compassion trap. What is compassionate depends greatly upon whose perspective one takes the person here illegally or the potential immigrant trying to come. True compassion should never come at someone else s expense.

Making of AmericaA Patriot's History of the United States: From Columbus's Great Discovery to the War on Terror (Paperback)
by Larry Schweikart
Cost: Approximately $16.00
Description:
For the past three decades, many history professors have allowed their biases to distort the way America’s past is taught. These intellectuals have searched for instances of racism, sexism, and bigotry in our history while downplaying the greatness of America’s patriots and the achievements of "dead white men." As a result, more emphasis is placed on Harriet Tubman than on George Washington; more about the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II than about D-Day or Iwo Jima; more on the dangers we faced from Joseph McCarthy than those we faced from Josef Stalin. A Patriot’s History of the United States corrects those doctrinaire biases.

Samuel Adams: A LifeSamuel Adams: A Life (Paperback)
by Ira Stoll
Cost: Approximately $7.00
Description:
Unlike Jefferson, Washington, or other Founding Fathers, Sam Adams could point to few accomplishments before the era of the Revolution began. With the end of “benign neglect” and the onset of the efforts by Britain to tighten restrictions on the American colonies, Adams’ true talents emerged. He was, as his cousin John Adams stated, a “born rebel.” Stoll has written a compact, admiring biography of Adams aimed at general readers. He examines Adams’ rich but sometimes sad personal life, including his marriages and family tragedies. The strongest part of the narrative, of course, concerns his career as a Revolutionary agitator and statesman. Many of Adams’ comrades in the struggle were secular deists, but Adams was a devout Christian who sincerely saw the hand of God working in the struggle for his concept of liberty and eventually independence. His fiery rhetoric was infused with biblical allusions.

Real George WashingtonThe Real George Washington (American Classic Series) (Paperback)
by Jay A. Perry
Cost: Approximately $15.00
Description:
The Real George Washington: The True Story of America s Most Indispensable Man. There is properly no history; only biography, wrote Ralph Waldo Emerson. If that is true of the general run of mankind, it is particularly true of George Washington. The story of his life is the story of the founding of America. His was the dominant personality in three of the most critical events in that founding: the Revolutionary War, the Constitutional Convention, and the first national administration. Had he not served as America's leader in those three events, all would likely have failed -- and America, as we know it today, would not exist.

Real Thomas JeffersonThe Real Thomas Jefferson (American Classic Series) (Paperback)
by Andrew M. Allison
Cost: Approximately $14.00

The Real Thomas Jefferson: The True Story of America's Philosopher of Freedom Jefferson is the central figure in American history, and...he may yet prove to be the central figure in modern history. So stated noted historian Henry Steele Commager. And as the English novelist Samuel Butler once wrote, Though God cannot alter the past--historians can. His observation is especially applicable to our changing perceptions of great historical personalities, most of whom are relentlessly reinterpreted by each new generation of biographers.
